18+27-14=?
Don't use paper or a calculator. When you have the answer, leave it in Comments, but most importantly tell me how you did the calculation. You know, your thought process. I'll leave a comment too, but do the math before you read the comments so you aren't influenced.

I got 31 like this:
18-14=4; 27+4=31
I got 31.
27-14=13
18+13=31
31, and I did it exactly like you did it.
I got 31
20+30=50
50-5=45
45-14=31
31
I did it like 27-14 then plus the 18...because it was easier. But I remember MDAS from high school when you have to x, /, + and - IN THAT ORDER. My husband, to be fair to "the grandpa" in the comment above, would have TOTALLY done it that way. Round up, subtract the remainder and then do the last step. My husband is a PhD geologist/math geek. He just does things that way! I hope I'm not insulting the person above!
The grandpa is very silly. I am not sure if he is being honest, because he might be, and if so, I would like him to let me know if he ever needs a job! My company needs some folks with interesting logic.
I solved it left to right, just like all the old math recommends and because I learned it that way several (many?) ( feels like 100?) years ago.
OK..so I am a little behind on my reading. What can I say...better late then never.
I did it the same way Mommy's Nintendo did.
You are behind, FC! but with good reason...
