Help, please!

I need a new book. Any suggestions? I just finished a couple if Ibsen plays and had to return the book (otherwise I might have read a couple more) and am going to clean off the desk today and find an essay the Grandpa suggested I read that's at the bottom of the mess, but after that, I don't have anything lined up. What would you recommend?

Okay, I just finished "A Wedding in December" by Anita Shreve, and I liked it. Also, "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. I get it that neither of these classify as Great Literature, but they are worth the read. I also recently finished "Oil" by Upton Sinclair and can firmly declare it as the most boring book I have ever read, beating out "My Antonia" which used to hold that title.

But for fun, there's always "Life with Marley".

You could read part of your novel every day.

But to be a better writer, TG, shouldn't I read other people's writing too?

PSP: Thanks for the suggestions. I've written them down for our next library trip.

PSP & I are literary opposites. I HATED My Sister's Keeper so intensly that I kicked it out of My house; it was no longer welcome. I will never be lured by the SIREN Piccoult again. And I quite liked My Antonia as well as other Cather titles. However, I am not so confident in our differences to add a title Oil. For laughs out loud try Zippy. I also enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife.

Ooo, the meme, I enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife. I am not quite the Great Reading Expert I used to be, and have taken to more commericalized literature lately; that is to say, I have read a bunch of Patterson fluff. It is decidedly gauche to admit liking Picoult, but I did like My Sister's Keeper and also Plain Truth (but then, I love the Amish).

I don't have anything specific to recommend but I have some reviews up if you're interested at One For the Books.

I have been enjoying the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and other books by Alexander McCall Smith. Just fun pleasant reading with a glance into life in Africa.

It's not exactly light summer reading, but I just finished the Lou Holtz autobiography "Wins, Losses and Lessons" and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Coached under Woody Hayes at OSU and grew up in East Liverpool!
