Finally Winter?

Nuh-uh! All through December, Lulu kept denying that it was winter. It couldn't be because it hadn't snowed. Even when December 21 came and went (without flakes from the sky) it was not winter. "Mommy?" she queried, "When is it going to be winter?" Sorry, sweetie. We live in The South. Sigh...

But Maybe There is a chance of winter starting this coming Friday, though. Keep your fingers crossed in your mittens for us, okay? It's nearly February, afterall, which is the month when we usually start our tomato seeds and realize in a few weeks that we waited too long and the month before spring starts (the thermometer starts heading back up consistently on March 1) so our time to have winter this year is running out.

Updates

Pete's tooth still hasn't fallen out, but we expect it to be out any day now, it's all sticking up and crooked and whatever. She doesn't even mind that we call her Snaggletooth (although it's way cuter than that implies).

Yesterday morning, Pete announced from the bathroom where she was brushing her hair, "The Bad Hair Day has finally ended." Whew! Thank goodness for that!! It looked really cute this morning, too.

It looks like the upside down tomato isn't going to happen this year. We needed Husbandguy to figure out how to hang it because a shepherd's crook pole thingy wouldn't be strong enough, but I think he's forgotten (I had!) and now it's kind of too late to plant. Our tomato in the planter is doing well, though, especially since I covered the dirt with rocks to keep the cat from pooping in it. Ew!

Still send me Tupperware, okay? HG bought those sticky traps because he didn't want to put poison in the pantry (smart guy, that HG!), but we haven't caught anything. On the other hand, we also haven't had any new poop in there since I SCRUBBED and SANITIZED everything. But still send Tupperware (it's just cool to have).

Pete just gave away a tomato. To the little girl who lives down the street, for her mom. Isn't that sweet?

The First Tomato

Pete and Moomie picked our first tomato yesterday. They decided that even though it needed to be picked, it wasn't quite ready to eat yet so Moomie didn't get to try it like Pete and I had planned. Which is too bad because I don't think I'm interested in eating any (seeing as I really don't like tomatoes), and it would be nice for Pete to be able to share it with someone. Maybe Husbandguy will try a piece. Maybe Lulu will discover that she really does like tomatoes after all. Maybe we'll have unexpected company who want tomatoes. Maybe VW and Ginger like tomatoes...

We've got two more on the plant that this one came from. Actually we've got three more, but one of them has been pea-sized for a month so I don't think we're getting a tomato out of that one. Our other two plants have a total of six beginning tomatoes. So we have potential of sharing with Moomie later this summer...

Rug Burn, Tomato Update, and Other Stuff

So we got this great new carpet that is way better than the icky pink stuff that came with the house. Except that the desk is still in the garage. I set up the computer using an end table and Pete's little table, and I have to sit on the floor. And yesterday when I was giving Lulu a shower (because the bathtub is full of stuff from under Pete's bed), my shins got wet and they burned! Turns out I have mild rug burn from sitting in front of the computer. Who would have ever thought!

We have one tiny tomato finally! It looks like a little green blueberry. I'll post a picture when I find the camera...

Also, apparently the Chiaphant sat in the garage too long because only one of the seeds sprouted and a bunch of the rest are getting moldy. Oh well. It was worth a shot. If I find the camera, I'll post a picture of the little green stem sticking up above CPh's tail. It's kind of silly, really.

This summer, Pete is learning French (I would have chosen Spanish, but I wasn't the one picking) and piano. Pete is really taking to both, I think.

So! Totally uninteresting, huh? Sorry....

Tomato Update

Not much to report, really. The one in the pot by itself has a bunch of flowers on it but no little tomatoes yet, and the other two have buds but not any blooms yet. This is the boring part. At least they're still growing!

I'll post a picture later if I get a chance to take one.

Tomato Update

All three of the tomato plants already have buds, which totally surprised us. It seemed kind of soon, and they really don't seem that much bigger than they were when we planted them.

Maybe Boss 1 was on to something with all that selling the tomatoes talk...

Boss 1's Plans for the Tomatoes

Boss 1 has high hopes for the tomato plants this year. I also think she really likes the farmers' market. The other day she suggested that we should sell the extra tomatoes we get from our plants this year. I know she was thinking of taking them to the farmers' market and setting up shop (I don't think she really gets how that works). I didn't want to squash her enthusiasm so I just said that I thought that sounded like an interesting idea and I couldn't wait to see if we got enough tomatoes to do that. It's more likely that we'll give the extras to the temps...

Tomatoes 2007

Every year, Boss 1 likes to grow a tomato plant out in front of the office. This year, she had decided not to do it, but when she was at the farmers market this past weekend, she found a good deal on a 3-pack of plants, probably because it is getting late in the season to start tomatoes. She brought them back to the office and had me help her plant them. Usually, she just gets a few tomatoes before something tragic happens to her plant (heat, not enough water, too much fertilizer [Mr. Co-Worker!], etc.), but since she's got three plants this year and we've learned lessons from years gone by, we have high hopes for 10 (?), maybe, nice red tomatoes... We'll see. I'll update you...
