Heck to the Yeah! The Lion King Was AWESOME!

So. This past Saturday, Pete and I went to see The Lion King. It was amazing! My eyes kept getting all watery right from the start all through the whole thing because I was so excited. Pete, who is apparently more like her father than like me, says she didn't get choked up at all. I don't think she even laughed or anything. She just sat there and watched, totally still. I had to remind her to clap when it was all over. But she says she liked it a lot and wants to go to another show sometime.

The whole thing was really neat. If you've seen the movie, you know the story so I won't bore you with that part, but the way they represent it, the makeup and the puppets and the costumes and the costumes that were puppets too... You have GOT to see it. Seriously! The giraffes were fantastic! The hyenas were weird-looking. Zazu was cool: he was a puppet and there was a guy all in blue who carried him around and talked and sang and did all his stuff and you didn't even think about the fact that there was some blue guy holding a puppet. All you saw was Zazu. The same with Timon but his guy was green and Timon was kind of stuck to the front of him. The lions, Mufasa and Scar, had lion heads that sat on top of the actors' heads except when they moved a certain way. Then they could make them swing forward and down in a really imposing and threatening way. It's hard to explain. You'll just have to go see it, I think. And young Simba and young Nala were really cute and talented (like you would expect them to be in a show like that). And Rafiki was a woman and pretty funny. It was so... so... Well, I wish we could go again! Right now! And tomorrow and the day after and... well, you get it.

After that we went to dinner and the place we picked didn't make blender drinks so we couldn't get virgin pina coladas and daiquiris, like we'd planned, and after dinner the library was closed and I didn't have enough money to pay for parking and go on a carriage ride so we came home, but we still had a wonderful time. Pete wasn't ready for it to be over, and neither was I. On the way home we stopped and bought a daiquiri mixer and had daiquiris with Lulu and Husbandguy when we got home.

LL & DH had a nice afternoon too apparently. They went to the park and the mall and out to dinner too. I'm sure they had a nice time, but I think Pete and I had the better date.

Oh yeah, and since Pete really likes music, after the show, we looked to see how much the cast recording was, and it was $25! I told Pete we'd see how much it was online when we got home, and we found it for less than $10 at Amazon. Thank goodness we didn't buy it there! So if you do get a chance to go, really think about whether you need souvenirs right then because you can probably find them for less somewhere else.

Mmmmmm!!

Since we were meeting Pete's friend and his mom and sister and brother at one of the local spraygrounds this morning, I didn't have coffee with my breakfast because I didn't want to have to run to the bathroom every five minutes. By the time we got home, though, I was feeling a little foggy from all the being-outside-iness and from not having coffee this morning. So I made a cup of coffee to have with my lunch. Being that it was lunchtime, straight coffee didn't sound real good to me so I put a splash of milk in it (just a splash), which I don't usually do, and then, since the bottle was already out for Pete's milk, I added a little chocolate syrup. By golly, that was good! When I finished it, I wished I'd made two cups of coffee instead of just one so I could have another...

Super Nice (Busy) Week

When Pete was in school, you remember, her "daytime office," the house was cleaner and a lot quieter. And it was nice in a way, but I never did anything special, except when Lulu and I went to Pete's school for something or had errands to run or met Husbandguy for lunch (which we've done more since school let out, actually). Since Pete's here all the time now, and I don't want her to be bored (because she's mean when she's bored), we do a ton of stuff all the time. This week, we did so much stuff that by Tuesday evening, it already felt like Friday, but it wasn't. I know it wasn't because Wednesday happened next. And by the end of Wednesday it felt like Friday again. It was weird! It's felt like Friday all week, really. And I feel like we spent time with a bunch of different people even though, if you don't count the nurse practitioner at my neuro's office, we only saw one extra family more than we usually do. We see VW and Ginger every week for piano lessons and we saw them as usual, and then we saw Pete's friend from school and his mom and brother and sister twice so we've had at least one thing to do outside the house or with people every day this week (unless you don't count the grocery store and the library, which we did yesterday, but I count them) and two things most days. In the old days, I would have written that we had a week full of meetings, but I don't do that anymore. Instead, we just had a Super Nice and Busy Week.

And tomorrow Pete and I are going to see a show and get virgin Pina Coladas with our dinner afterward. Girls' Night! Woo hoo!! And Husbandguy and Lulu will have some quality alone time too (which reminds me: write out "instructions" to make Husbandguy's afternoon easier...).

Congratulations The Grandpa!

The Grandpa was the 1000th visitor. Congratulations, The Grandpa! I wish I had a prize for you, like free groceries for a year or something. Of course, if that had been the prize, I would have been visiting my blog all day so I could win it... I don't have anything like that, but... um... Oh! I know! I'll ask Pete to come to your new house when you get it and teach you how to bake a cake the right way! She thinks that is a good prize.

We're on the verge of having our 1000th pageview since I started counting. I wonder who the lucky reader will be...

Lulu says "car." In homage to her Uncle Big Brother and cousin Kiki, it sounds like "cah." If you're waiting at an intersection or driving down a road and are wondering what those things are that keep moving past you, it's helpful to have Lulu with you because she'll let you know. She says, "Cah... Cah... Cah... Cah... Cah... Cah... Cah... Cah..." one time for each car she sees.

Lulu also says "cool." If we comment that something is cool, LL repeats after us, "Coooo."

I Miss Sybil

Is that weird? I don't think so. I was so engrossed in that book that it makes sense to me that I "miss" her (them?). I don't wish there was a sequel to Sybil though, and I'm not going to read it again right away. I'm going to move on. Because I have to reread something else before 7/21...

It's a Big Job

So, since I got all excited when I saw that I was going to recover our files and just randomly crammed data onto CDs, as much as would fit on each, our photos and other files are all mixed up and I'm trying to figure out how to get them organized in the most efficient way (with the least amount of work - because who has time to sit around organizing all day - what would the girls do?). My first idea was to create a catalog of what is on which disk, and I discovered that I can print a contact sheet in Picasa so I can actually see the photos, too, but considering that I have hundreds and hundreds of files, meaning a ton of typing because I can't figure out any way to copy the file names, etc. into my spreadsheet, that way will take a really long time. Another idea I had is to organize the photos into folders, maybe by date the way they used to be, and save them back onto CDs. That wouldn't take as long, but then we'd have these 10 CDs of stuff that we'd just have wasted (the CDs would be wasted, not the stuff), in a way. But I haven't ruled that out either. Another idea I had is to go back in time and organize the files before I burn the original CDs. That seems like the most efficient choice, but I'm starting to think it's not very practical. I'm open to suggestions if anybody has any...

They've Gone to Missouri

Yesterday Pete and Lulu went to Missouri, which must have seemed tame considering that they went to Thailand and Africa on their last trip. They didn't stay long, though, because Pete had a piano lesson scheduled. I wonder where they'll go next!
